Back to the Big Bang is an editorial article from the October issue of Sky & Telescope. I substituted the original photograph for my own illustration to depict polarisation patterns.
The article reads as a narrative into one mans journey to Chile’s Atacama desert – where “the hunt is on for the signature of inflation.” These faint patterns of polarised light provide evidence that after the big bang, the universe expanded exponentially for a tiny fraction of a second.
These patterns of polarised light inspired my illustrative response, where I attempted to capture something ambiguous – a pattern hidden the cosmos that could unlock the theories of the big bang.
